Advanced Foam Builds Record-Breaking 75-Foot Sarcophagus for The Mummy (2017) Hollywood Premiere
For the Hollywood premiere of The Mummy (2017), Advanced Foam engineered and fabricated a massive 75-foot-tall foam sarcophagus, one of the largest ever built for a film event installation.
Working in collaboration with Joe Lewis Company on behalf of Universal Pictures, our team spent eight weeks transforming raw EPS foam into a towering, cinematic centerpiece inspired by Princess Ahmanet’s tomb. The build involved precision foam cutting, hand-sculpted hieroglyphics and serpent motifs, and the application of Advanced Foam’s proprietary Polycoat™ polyurethane coating, delivering durability, realism, and weather resistance suitable for a high-traffic outdoor premiere.
Installed at Hollywood & Highland, the finished sarcophagus dominated the entrance experience, setting the tone for the film’s epic scale. Due to its size and complexity, the structure required 18 wide-load tractor trailers for transport and more than 160 hours of on-site installation, all executed with tight deadlines and zero margin for error.
This high-profile project—supporting a global release starring Tom Cruise—demonstrates Advanced Foam’s expertise in large-scale foam fabrication for movies, television, live events, and themed entertainment. From concept to installation, we deliver iconic props that perform under pressure and leave a lasting impression.
